What transpired in Moon Knight Season 1 Episode 3 as Khonshu gets imprisoned?
At the start of Moon Knight Episode 3, Layla is seen forging an Egyptian passport with the help of a lady named Lagaro, with whom she talks about her past and her dad. The scene then cuts to Egypt, where Arthur Harrow is seen leading a herd of people while using the Ammit’s Scarab. The Scarab guides them to a specific place, supposedly where Ammit lies.
Upon finding Ammit’s location, Harrow cheers in joy, and the crowd reciprocates. However, a follower of Arthur immediately informs him about the arrival of Marc Spector (Moon Knight’s alter ego) in Cairo, Egypt, and is tracking them. Harrow reiterates that they needn’t worry as she (Ammit) is here.
The scene shifts again to the Moon Knight protagonist running across the rooftops of Cairo while he comes across three goons killing a guy. They threaten to do the same with Spector before a fight ensues. Marc overpowers all of them before Steven appears through the reflection of a knife. A blackout happens, and Marc finds himself sitting in a taxi.
The Moon Knight protagonist stops the cab and argues with the driver. Meanwhile, he sees two goons who claim he let them go earlier and starts running. Marc catches up to them by cutting through the traffic and gets hold of one of the guys. Steven reappears through a nearby mirror as he beats and questions him about Harrow. In the meantime, the other goon hits him at the back of his head, and another blackout happens.
The Moon Knight protagonist finds himself at a deserted place where it is revealed that his alternate identity, other than Steven, has killed off two of the goons. Marc then confronts the surviving guy about Harrow’s whereabouts, but to no avail, as he sacrifices himself in the name of Ammit.
Marc blames Steven for the kills, who snaps back at him as he is the one who has been in control of the body and committed all the bloodbaths. The Moon Knight protagonist then asks Khonshu to tell the other members of Ennead, the Egyptian gods. However, Khonshu decides to unleash his “Bad” idea.
Khonshu disappears and brings a crescent moon in broad daylight to alert the gods, which starts a panic situation among everyone as Harrow asks his followers to keep digging at any cost. In contrast, other gods start gathering their Avatars.
Portals open for Avatar scattered all over the world as they have been summoned to the meeting of Ennead, which is taking place inside the Pyramid of Giza. The Moon Knight protagonist enters the portal to attend the same, where he meets Avatars of other Egyptian gods. The proceedings begin as Khonshu is asked to put forward his case through Marc’s body. Thus, Khonshu and other gods argue over the former’s rogue and outcast behavior as Avatars are meant to observe and not meddle in the affairs of Mankind.
Khonshu then reveals his purpose, which is a judgment against Arthur Harrow for perpetrating the release of the Ammit. Consequently, Arthur is summoned through a portal. However, he convinces the gods against Khonshu that he has been manipulating and mistreating Marc due to his condition, DID. Hence, Khonshu’s case is dismissed as he receives a warning from Ennead.
After the hearing, Yatzil, Avatar of the Egyptian goddess of love Hathor, tells Marc about the tomb of Ammit as there is only one medjay named Senfu who recorded the location of the tomb of Ammit. Thus, Spector has to find Senfu’s sarcophagus to locate the tomb.
The Moon Knight protagonist then comes across Layla, who takes him to her old acquaintance Anton Mogart, a wealthy antiquities collector. However, their meeting soon becomes a disaster, which further takes a violent turn when Arthur Harrow arrives and destroys Senfu’s sarcophagus.
Marc is forced to summon the Moon Knight suit as he and Layla fight off Mogart’s men and escape the scene with the fragments of the map acquired from the destroyed sarcophagus. Both then seek Steven’s help, who is a know-it-all for Egyptian culture. Thus, Steven can construct an ancient star map (2000 years out-of-date) with remaining fragments from the destroyed sarcophagus. Khonshu further helps them turn the night sky according to the ancient star map with the help of Steven’s Mr. Knight.
Consequently, they are successful in getting the location of the Ammit’s tomb. However, Khonshu faces imprisonment due to his actions as a punishment from Ennead. Thus, he asks Steven to tell Marc to free him afterward. The episode ends with another fascinating note as Arthur talks to now-imprisoned Khonshu in his statue form.
