The decider match of 2022 VCT Masters Reykjavík Group B is over, and OpTic Gaming beats XERXIA Esports by a huge margin to qualify for the playoffs. While one could have expected OpTic to win, no one imagined that they would destroy XERXIA on both maps to secure the win by 2-0.
The first map, Fracture, started with OpTic taking clean kills to win the first two rounds; however, XERXIA turned the tables around by winning five rounds out of six after that. OpTic then jumped back to the game with stunning use of utilities, winning three back-to-back rounds to take a one-point lead. In the first half’s last round, Sushiboys showed his presence of mind and pulled off an insane 1v2 clutch to even out the scores.
The second half started off with an insane flang from Victor that bought OpTic some time to plant, and not only this, but he also managed to take multiple kills that helped them take the lead back. After that, they snatched the game completely away from XERXIA by winning five consecutive rounds. XERXIA tried to make a comeback by winning the next two rounds; however, it wasn’t enough to push OpTic on the back foot as they won the first map with a score of 13-9.
The second map, Haven, began with the same story as OpTic won three rounds before XERXIA clutched back to even out the scores. However, they couldn’t capitalize on it, and OpTic again dominated in the remaining six rounds to end the first half with a massive lead of six points.
The second half started with XERXIA winning two rounds, raising hopes for the fans; however, the rival team snatched it away quickly. XERXIA was able to win only one round after that, and OpTic ended the game with a score of 13-6.
They will now face another team from the NA region, The Gaurd, in the Upper Quarter-finals on April 16 to fight for a spot in the VCT Masters Reykjavík semi-finals.
