ZETA DIVISION thrashes DRX in a mind-blowing game by 2-1 to secure their spot in the VCT Masters Reykjavík Lower Semi-finals. DRX came in as the favorites; however, after two neck-on-neck matches, ZETA dominated the third map with a huge margin. They will now face the winner of the G2 Esports vs. Paper Rex game on April 23 for a slot in the lower bracket final.
The first map, Icebox, started with DRX winning two rounds back to back, but ZETA DIVISION instantly achieved a lead of two points by conquering five rounds out of six. DRX then closed the gap by snatching the next round by killing Laz as he was a few milliseconds away from defusing the bomb. However, they couldn’t win any other round after that as ZETA destroyed them to finish the first half with a score of 8-4. The hero of the first half was Crow, as he surprised everyone with his insane shock darts and secured 11 kills.
DRX started with a winning streak of five rounds in the second half, crashing their opponents to take the game away from them along with a lead of two points. However, ZETA DIVISION didn’t let the gap any bigger as they snatched the next two rounds from DRX to even out the scores. The next three rounds went back and forth as ZETA put 12-11 on the board. The last round brought an easy win for ZETA as they took the lead in the game by 1-0.
The second map, Ascent, began with the same story as Icebox, with DRX winning the first two rounds before ZETA turned the tables around by beating them in the next three rounds. DRX then took the lead back from ZETA to put 5-3 on the board. The next four rounds went back and forth as DRX secured a two-point lead after the first half.
ZETA won the first three rounds of the second half to first even out the scores and then take the lead before DRX snatched the next round to take the score to eight for all. DRX didn’t look back after that, as they secured four consecutive rounds to enter the match point. However, Sugerzero made terrific use of utilities once again to take ZETA one round closer to DRX, but that wasn’t enough to stop DRX from winning the second map with a score of 13-10.
ZETA started with a win in the pistol round this time on Split and crunched DRX in the first six rounds with some insane clutches pushing completely, pushing them on a back foot. Though DRX won the seventh and 12th rounds, it couldn’t stop ZETA from dominating as they put 10-2 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, DRX managed to win a couple of back-to-back rounds to stay alive in the game, but ZETA was way ahead as they destroyed them to win the match by 13-4.
